Week 10

Understanding Art Style Guides

This week, my team and I took inspiration from Little Nightmares and its' Tim Burton-esque art style. We felt by analyzing this game, we could get a better insight for how we want our VR project to look and feel. We evenly divided up the slides and addressed topics that we were most/interested in or familiar with. I enjoyed this weeks group assignment as I felt like it has helped me to better understand what fully encompasses an art style. After we finished compiling our slides, I went ahead and made sure to straighten up our headers, body text, and images to make sure everything was as consistent as possible (this was a critique provided to us in the previous assignment).

Week 09 - Art Style Guides

Understanding Story

This week, we were assigned teams for our VR Experience Common Art project. Together, we decided on Alice in Wonderland as our story influence with a Tim Burton art style. Isabelle, Blue, Akshay and I were able to work together to come up with some awesome ideas! We divided the photo collages amongst the four of us and had a group meeting where we went over what to include in our presentation. Isabelle used the notes from our group meeting to create the presentation and documentation for all of us to reference. We were all in charge of 3 slides and 3 photo collages each!

Module 2 Week 07

3D Art Asset Creation Pipeline - Substance Painter & UE

This week, we focused on texture creation within Substance Painter and exporting our maps and meshes into Unreal Engine. The beauty renders below were taken in Substance Painter. I enjoyed creating textures and playing around with the different alphas in SP. Next time around, I think I'll make my own alphas and try to keep in mind what can be accomplished with them, rather than sculpting every nook and cranny in ZBrush.

Week 06

Use of Perspective

For this week, we explored the word "transportation". We were asked to create a 3D object that represents the word transportation. For this week, I created a hoverboard inside of Maya and posed the UE Mannequin. I then rendered out several different channels in Arnold Renderer and brought those renders into Photoshop to create a 3D "illustration".

Module 2 Week 06

 Part 02 Game Asset Creation

This week we explored the use of ZBrush, Substance Painter, and resurfacing in our game asset creation pipeline. Making sure that you have a solid foundation for your work is super important when going on to create high poly iterations and sculpts. I had to return to my proxy model and delete some hidden geo. Luckily, I was able to find the geo with smooth mesh preview. I have a feeling that the extrude tool was causing some issues.

Module 02 Week 05

Use of Composition

For this assignment, we took a look at several different artists, their different art styles, and the way that they use solid compositions in their work. I really enjoyed Syd Mead's work and tried to imitate his art style, however it proved to be pretty difficult. I really couldn't tell what medium he was using, but I really enjoyed the textures and colors of his art. I kind of realized my composition looks nothing like my target artist, however our themes are similar at the very least.
